Going stellar

A side effect of the pandemic and the stay at home orders is that we now all have a bit more time on our hands. For many, this means spending more time doing the things they love - fitness, hobbies, netflix binging etc.

For me, it’s reviving interests and hobbies that I haven’t dabbled in for a long time. Astro is at the top of the list.

Given I’m about 1km from a major airport, the lack of planes means that the skies are free of interruptions for the first time, well, ever! The only remaining challenge is that I’m in a bortle 8/9 light polluted area and that my imaging location is a balcony facing west with huge trees to the right and left that restrict my field of view to something pretty tiny. I’ve also got a sports oval directly in front that runs their lights to about 10pm each night.

Fun. Fun. Fun!

plenty of obstructions + field lights, street lamps, & city glow. Perfect imaging conditions.
